Boy Scout Troop 159 is sponsored by Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Hewitt, NJ.
Boy Scouting is a year-round program for boys ages 11-17. Through the Boy Scout program, The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.
Boy Scout Troop 159 meets between the months of September and June, every Wednesday from 7:30 to 9 PM in the Our Lady Queen of Peace gymnasium (1911 Union Valley Road, Hewitt, NJ 07421). Our program also consists of monthly camping trips and annual summer camp attendance in July.
If you're interested in seeing what Scouting and Teamwork is all about, please contact Scoutmaster Tim Kopko (scoutmaster@OLQPTroopandPack159.org)
Our Troop will be doing our annual popcorn sale a bit earlier this year. This event is very important because it helps fund all of the activities our Boy Scouts enjoy. Each scout is asked to sell popcorn individually as well as help out at the sales events at A&P, Sears, Walgreens, Rite Aid and Our Lady Queen of Peace.
Please sign up to work one, two hour shift or two Masses. If your scout is interested in earning money for his scout account, he can sign up for an extra shift no earlier than one week before the shift. Each extra shift earns your scout $15. (Scouts who need to fulfill their required shift have priority.)
An adult must stay with your scout the entire time.
There are signup sheets here on our website:
Thank you for your time and dedication to helping Troop 159 scouts have a wonderful experience.
All, for those who want to complete the orienteering merit badge, here is the last requirement:
8. Set up a cross country course at least 2000 meters long with at least 5 control markers (to see how long it takes to get all points) OR set up a course with at least 12 control points and a time limit of 60 minutes with values for each point (to see how many points one can get in 60 min)
9. Act as an official while someone runs the course designed in number 8.
An example of what you need to set up (the map and score sheet, which can be used for either method in # 8) can be found here: Orienteering Scoring O Race.
The map and scoresheet can be drawn by hand but need to be legible and accurate to scale so I can review it. You can do this anytime this summer on your own. Please include who ran the course and their time/score. The pictures of participant map and scoring sheet are below and will be posted as well.
Email or call if I can help clarify.
