Boy Scout Troop 159 is sponsored by Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Hewitt, NJ.

Boy Scouting is a year-round program for boys ages 11-17. Through the Boy Scout program, The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.

Boy Scout Troop 159 meets between the months of September and June, every Wednesday from 7:30 to 9 PM in the Our Lady Queen of Peace gymnasium (1911 Union Valley Road, Hewitt, NJ 07421). Our program also consists of monthly camping trips and annual summer camp attendance in July.

OLQP Family Festival Service

Family Festival

Our charter organization is in need of our help to run the Family Festival May 13-15 which is their biggest fundraiser of the year.  The Church is asking that each scout sign up for at least 1 hour of service doing one of the following: Bingo, Games, Setup or Cleanup.

Eagles 5K Race (service opportunity)

Troop Camping (Appalachian Trail Backpacking)

Appalachian Trail

Our oldest boys, the Venture Patrol, are planning an Appalachian Trail Backpacking trip. The boys will camp in self-made shelters and backpack for roughly a total of 11.5 miles. Its sure to be an adventure that will make great memories.

The tentative schedule is meeting at 7pm at OLQP and returning by noon to a drop off point. More information will follow. Cost is $15 for food.

Scouts will have the opportunity to work on:

  • Tenderfoot, 2nd class and 1st class requirements including (but not limited to):
  • Cooking requirements
  • Lashing/knot tying requirements
  • Camping requirements
  • Backpacking Merit Badge

Troop Camping - Whitewater Rafting

We are going to Whitewater Challengers on the Lehigh River in Weatherly, PA which is about 2 hours away. We'll leave on Friday night, June 3, and return on Sunday, June 5. The price will be $54 per scout (cost is being subsidized by the troop to keep it as reasonable as possible) and $89 per adult.

Camp Turrell

We will meet at OLQP Sunday, July 10 at 8:30 AM and return to OLQP Saturday, July 16 at 12:00 PM.

Cost is $395 if paid in full by April 15. Afterwards the cost is $445, however, the rate does not increase for first year scouts.

You should pay the troop directly, however, you must provide payment by the April 6th meeting (or by other arrangement to the treasurer Angelique Braen by 4/13) so the troop can make payment (due to Spring Break we have no meeting on 4/13).

If you are going to pay directly to council, please ensure you provide the scouts name, Troop 159, week #2 AND get a receipt.
