Boy Scout Troop 159 is sponsored by Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Hewitt, NJ.
Boy Scouting is a year-round program for boys ages 11-17. Through the Boy Scout program, The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.
Boy Scout Troop 159 meets between the months of September and June, every Wednesday from 7:30 to 9 PM in the Our Lady Queen of Peace gymnasium (1911 Union Valley Road, Hewitt, NJ 07421). Our program also consists of monthly camping trips and annual summer camp attendance in July.
If you're interested in seeing what Scouting and Teamwork is all about, please contact Scoutmaster Tim Kopko (scoutmaster@OLQPTroopandPack159.org)
Cost will be $15. Payment is due at 11/25 Troop meeting.
Camp Glen Gray is a weekend, year round campground nestled in the hills of northeastern New Jersey located off of Ramapo Valley Road. Its scenic location and large selection of cabins, leantos and tent sites make it a favorite campground for scouts, youth groups and families.
On this trip, scouts will camp in cabins and then day hike on Saturday according to skill abilities. Older and more fit scouts can choose a 10 mile hike as a qualifying event for the hiking merit badge. Younger scouts and webelos will go on a shorter 3-5 mile hike while working specifically on wilderness first aid scenarios (Tenderfoot, 2nd/1st class first aid requirements), identifying 10 animals of wildlife (2nd Class requirements 6), using a map a compass and cooking a backpacking meal.
Requirements that boys can work towards include:
Location: OLQP Gym
