Boy Scout Troop 159 has been sponsored by Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Hewitt, NJ since 2004.

Boy Scouting is a year-round program for boys ages 11-17. Through the Boy Scout program, The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.

Boy Scout Troop 159 meets between the months of September and June, every Wednesday from 7:30 to 9 PM in the Our Lady Queen of Peace gymnasium (1911 Union Valley Road, Hewitt, NJ 07421). Our program also consists of monthly camping trips and annual summer camp attendance in July.

Wilderness Survival at Camp Yaw Paw

April’s camping trip theme will be wilderness survival at Camp Yaw Paw located at 101 Swamp Rd, Mahwah, NJ 07430. Scouts will meet in the OLQP parking lot at 7:00 PM on Friday, March 31st and return at 12:00 noon on Sunday, April 2nd. Gear preparation, first aid, fire building, signaling, shelter building, water & food safety and protection from wildlife are all skills that may be covered.  Consult the weather forecast when packing clothing and footwear.

As always, scouts wanting to work on requirements should prepare before the trip to work with a Scoutmaster over the weekend.

The New Weis Center in Ringwood NJ will offer Citizenship in the Nation MB, on April 1, 2017  9a-1p (cost $10).  To sign up:

  1. Contact Karen Zelinski by phone 610-662-8809 or email kzelinski@aol.com at least 7 days prior to the class
  2. Mail your payment to The new Weis Center at 150 Snake Den Road Ringwood, NJ 07456
  3. Email your BSA health form parts A&B to kzelinski@aol.com

Camp Turrell Deadlines

With this warmer weather it is time to start thinking about summer camp!

Troop Summer Camp at Turrell July 16-22nd for all first year scouts and up. Early Bird fee: cost is $400 if paid in full by April 5th. Late fee is $445, however, the rate does not increase for first year scouts. The last day payments are accepted is June 14th (our last Troop meeting before summer). Adult fee is $125.- (no early bird discount).

Please pay the troop directly by April 5th for the early bird fee (Due to Spring break we have no meeting on 4/12).

How to pay:

1) By check (to Troop 159) or cash - give to Treasurer Angelique Braen

2) By using the boys Scout account - to be arranged via Treasurer Angelique Braen

3) By Paypal (click here). Paypal payments MUST be received by April 5th to arrange for the early bird fee.

Medical Forms:
These are located on the front page, lower right side (under For Scouts-medical form) of our Troop Site. Please, only use this form, older forms will not be accepted. Please print it and look through it as you read through items below.

Sections A, B AND C must be completed and dated within the past year.

Please schedule your annual physical NOW to have them completed by June 14th (our last meeting).  The SMs must review these forms prior to camp due to new NY laws.

Here are key things you need to do before providing it to the troop:
1) Make 2 copies, 1 for you, 1 for troop
2) Include your signature (section A) AND doctors signature (section C) must be on form
3) If your son has a prescription medication, ensure the section in Part B is completed with the correct dosage AND the parent AND doctor must ALSO sign off on the signature lines below the list of meds in section B.
4) If you are comfortable with it, in Section B, check "Yes" to the question "non prescription medications are authorized..." This will allow administration of items like Advil, sudafed, etc.
5) DO NOT include over the counter medications/non prescription meds on this form
6) Make a copy of medical insurance card and attach to form


NNJC is offering a discount for a second week of camp to any scouts that would like to go to camp a second week in council. Attach a Camper Sampler Program form to your payment to the Troop.

Create & make Futuristic Clothing using unusual materials. 

Swampbase 2018 Payments

Payment schedule for scouts who have signed up for our Swampbase trek:

  • $50 - Monthly payment 1st Friday of March through November, and January. Pay with Paypal
  • $190 - Annual payment, March 3rd and Sept 1st. Pay with Paypal
  • $625 - One Time payment. One Time. Due before Sept 1st, 2017. Pay with Paypal

A final payment will be required on Feb 9, 2018 that will be adjusted depending on final numbers for the crew size. It is estimated to be between $75 - $125 for monthly payers, or between $195 - $245 for annual payers, and between $50 - $75 for one time payers. This number will be communicated by Jan 5, 2018, if not sooner. Any questions, please contact Lee Szolusha.
